In Case Anyone Was Wondering Where Geraldine Ferraro Went

March 11, 2008

Ouch.

Clinton campaign finance committee member, former vice presidential candidate, and former Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, D-NY,  told the Daily Breeze of Torrance, Ca., that, “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

Ah, FoxNews, that bastion of “news” has noticed a similarity between Spitzer and ex-NJ Gov Jim McGreevey:

Resign…. or face impeachment?

March 11, 2008

From MSNBC:

“The governor has 48 hours to resign or articles of impeachment would be introduced,” Josh Fitzpatrick, spokesman for Assembly Republican Minority Leader James Tedisco, told Reuters.

The Agile Manifesto – Principle 3

March 11, 2008

Principle 3 – Deliver working software frequently, from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, with a preference to the shorter timescale

So what’s the difference between this and iterative development?  At first glance, this seems to be the same thing, and indeed it does share many of the same facets of iterative development.  I think that the key takeaway here is “working software”.  If we as a development team focus on the most important aspects of the software first, we should be able to orchestrate iterations (or sprints) designed on delivering software that addresses those aspects.

Releasing frequently, even if only internally, is very beneficial and one of the pieces of Agile development that has been working well for us.  This creates a much shorter feedback loop as testers and business partners can become more engaged by having tangible software to use.  This principle goes hand in hand with principle #2 (welcome change) as often requirements will be changed or refined after seeing what the software actually does.

Sex Scandals and Politics

March 11, 2008

A quote from my friend Ben regarding the Spitzer scandal:

Since this sex scandal involved a woman, it was pretty easy to figure out that it was a Democrat.

Funny.

Separated at Birth?

Tuesday Morning

March 11, 2008

We put a deposit down on a minivan last night.  We got a very good deal but it was an exhausting experience, especially with two cranky and hungry children in tow.

The whole Spitzer scandal is naturally all over our papers this morning (and the rest of the national media, for that matter).  I’m not sure what I think he should do… I suppose I’m leaning towards him resigning and spending time trying to restore his family if possible.  There were two points in Andrew Sullivan’s blog yesterday though that I agree with.

Paraphrasing:

1. Spitzer, like him or not, is human; which means he has the ability to fail.
2. Prostitution should not be illegal
