Adventures in eBaying
March 17, 2008I listed a bunch of stuff on eBay yesterday that we’d been planning on selling for a while. One item is attracting a lot of interest and questions and has already received 3 bids (reserve hasn’t been met yet). What is weird is that yesterday evening we received questions from two separate prospective buyers asking if we would add a BuyItNow option. We’d be more than willing to do that, but someone had already placed a bid, which made adding a BuyItNow against eBay rules. I responded to the two parties with this information.
Within minutes I received inquiries from both parties if we would cancel the auction and complete the sale on the side and that they would wire our asking price into our PayPal account (of course they don’t know what our BuyItNow price would be). This is clearly against eBay rules and eBay recommends that we don’t even respond to those messages, so I didn’t.
Got another email this morning from one of them wanting to know our reserve price. Again, that’s against eBay rules, and as much as I’d like to sell this, I don’t want to jeopardize my good standing with eBay. With the interest it’s attracting, I have no doubt it will sell anyway.
