John McCain and his Temper

April 1, 2008

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time – Blogs from CNN.com:

(CNN) – John McCain Tuesday brushed off suggestions his well-documented quick temper may hinder his ability to serve as President of the United States.

McCain also pointed out that a quick temper is a trait shared with many other 129 year old males.

In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, the presumptive Republican nominee acknowledged he can get angry from time to time, but called that face a “very minor thing” compared to his accomplishments in the Senate.

You uh… wouldn’t like me when I’m angry… wanna see my angry face?

“[My] leadership qualities required an even temper and those abilities to reach across the aisle and work with democrats for the good of my constituents and the country are clear indications that that’s a very minor thing as compared to my record of accomplishment.” McCain also said he thinks voters will expect him to get angry at times.

MCCAIN SMASH!!!!

“When I see corruption in Washington, when I see wasting needlessly of their tax dollars, when I see people behaving badly

I naturally think this would make a great show for Spike TV.

—they expect me to get angry, and I will get angry,” he said. “Because I won’t stand for corruption,

Nor will I sit for corruption.  I am on the fence about crouching for corruption though.

and I won’t stand for waste of their tax dollars and I will demand that people serve their country first and the special interests second.”

OK, as long as we still get to serve the special interests.  I don’t want them left ignored.

McCain has long been known by Senate colleagues for his at-times angry outbursts. Most recently, he issued Texas Sen. John Cornyn an apology after shouting “F— you’ at him during last year’s heated immigration debate.

That’s nothing.  You should have heard him at the Senate bingo tournament.

Cornyn endorsed McCain’s presidential bid in February.

I guess McCain isn’t the only one who is mad.

Hillary Drops Out

April 1, 2008

Didn’t see this coming at all:

“I appreciate the enormous support from all of you,” Clinton told a gathering of about 1,300 supporters outside of Scranton, PA, ” but rest assured that I have given this a lot of thought and realized that it is time for our party to come together and present a strong united front against Senator McCain this November in order to get our country back on track. It is my personal belief that the person best suited to face Senator McCain is Barack Obama, whom I have the utmost respect for.

With that, I am formally withdrawing from the 2008 Presidential race and placing my support fully behind Senator Obama, as well as focusing on the needs of my constituents in the state of New York. I thank you all again for your support. This has truly been a thrilling and exciting opportunity.”

Obama Closing in PA

The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan:

Rasmussen has Clinton by five in Pennsylvania: last week the spread was 10. SurveyUSA has her by 12: last week it was 19. A good trend for Obama. We’ll see if it keeps up.

Google Docs Can be Edited Offline

April 1, 2008

Slashdot | Google Docs Aims At Microsoft Office Live:

Channel News reports that Google took an important step forward Monday in its rivalry with Microsoft Office Live, reporting that Google Docs will allow users to edit word processing documents offline. Google said users of its Google Docs word processing application can use Google Gears to save and then edit documents without being connected to the Internet. ‘The offline capability will be limited to word processing documents, though the company plans to add it to spreadsheets and presentations in the future.’

Back to FireFox

April 1, 2008

I’ve been evaluating IE8 (beta 1) some today and while there are some things I liked, it’s still too unstable to rely on.
Switching back to FireFox, I’ve installed the Deepest Sender add-on which allows me to post directly to my WordPress blog.
It will be interesting to see if an IE8 activity for WordPress gets developed. From reading the forums, it looks like WordPress’s official stance is not to support IE8 until it is out of beta.
Another issue with IE8 and WordPress is the Dashboard is unviewable (although other subscreens are).
